We are so pleased to take our total number of KDF scholars to 27 over the last ten years, with the award of three 2025 scholarships to Taylah Moffitt, Hayley Fraser and Zoe Weddin. All three hail from outside Sydney and as first year “Freshers” they are enjoying all that Women’s College has to offer!
Left to right above we have Taylah, Hayley and Zoe.
Taylah grew up in Crescent Head, attending a school in Kempsey, where many of her teachers commended her excellent work ethic. She has a longstanding commitment to community service through Surf Life Saving and was awarded NSW Junior Life Saver of the Year in 2021. Her work for Surf Life Saving has given her insight into the importance of diversity and inclusion (D&I) and she now serves on the Surf Life Saving Australia National Youth Panel, where she is working to help find ways to have national D&I initiatives implemented at a local level. While acknowledging that some clubs can be resistant to change, she says that she is inspired to keep going as she knows these issues are important. Her long-term goal is to utilise her degree Majors in International Relations and Project Management to have impact, for example, by working in project management with overseas nations on sustainability issues.
Hayley grew up on the NSW Mid North Coast, where her high school’s limited HSC curriculum meant that she also attended a selective government online school. This academic workload, coupled with family carer commitments kept her very busy for her last two years of high school. One of Hayley’s referees remarked that “Hayley is a determined and persistent student who works meticulously on her subjects and seeks extension activities to enhance her learning”. Hayley is studying a Bachelor of Science, with a focus on Mathematics and Data Science.
Zoe grew up on Dangar Island and attended Newcastle Grammar from Year 10 (catching a ferry to and from school!). She was awarded Dux of Year 12 in 2024. Zoe is studying a Bachelor of Arts/Law and wants to major in International Relations or Political Economy. Zoe was School Captain of her primary school, and Prefect and House Captain at Newcastle Grammar, as well as an active and enthusiastic participant in a wide range of co-curricular activities. Her commitments included volunteering, public speaking, debating, music, cross-country running, soccer and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, to name but a few!
